Collecting with Mr. Getty

submitted by Marvin's Underground Evening Lectures on 10/10/18 1

January 16, 2010, The Getty Villa Getty Museum associate director David Bomford welcomes three previous Getty Museum leaders for a lively discussion about their experiences knowing, working for, and collecting with J. Paul Getty during the 1960s and 1970s. Former director Stephen Garrett and former curators Burton Fredericksen and Gillian Wilson share anecdotes and insights about how Getty formed his art collection and reflect on his fascination with Greek and Roman antiquities and his decision to build a museum inspired by an ancient Roman villa.
