Preserving "América Tropical:" From Original Technique to Conservation Treatment

Presenter: Leslie Rainer, Senior Project Specialist, Getty Conservation Institute Moderator: Susan Macdonald, Head of Field Projects, Getty Conservation Institute This presentation was part of the two-day symposium, "The Siqueiros Legacy: Challenges of Conserving the Artist's Monumental Murals," held at the Getty Center, Los Angeles in October 2012. At this event, a group of international speakers presented the many different aspects of conservation, transportation, installation, and presentation associated with some of Siqueiros' most important murals in Mexico, Argentina, Chiles, and Southern California. Presented in conjunction with the Getty Conservation Institute project, Conservation of "América Tropical," which undertook conservation of this David Alfaro Siqueiros mural and construction of a shelter, viewing platform, and an interpretive center to place the mural in its historical and artistic context.
