On October 13, 2017, the Museum of Natural and Cultural History welcomed anthropologist and UO Tribal liaison Jason Younker (Coquille) to kick off the annual Archaeology Lecture Series with his talk “Potlatch and the Southwest Oregon Research Project: 22 years of Oregon Native Empowerment.” Potlatch and the Southwest Oregon Research Project: 22 years of Oregon Native Empowerment Anthropologist and UO Tribal liaison Jason Younker (Coquille) In 1995, four Coquille Tribal members embarked on a research project to Washington, DC, hoping to find archived records of tribal history, language and culture. They returned with nearly 60,000 pages of materials. What happened next changed Oregon's history. Anthropologist and UO Tribal liaison Jason Younker (Coquille) explores this revolutionary project and what it has meant for Oregon Native Empowerment.
