He served as UK Permanent Representative to Nato and afterwards as UK Permanent Representative to the United Nations. EDWARD CHAPLIN Edward Chaplin directed the Middle East Section at the Foreign Office and served as British Ambassador to Jordan and post-conflict Iraq where, during the 1980s, he was briefly kidnapped by Iraqi Revolutionary Guards. UVEN CHONG Uven Chong is a PhD student in the Engineering Department. He has worked in the US Congress and was an undergraduate research fellow at the Centre for Study of Religion and Conflict. He was also English national debating champion in 2009. *************************************************** OPPOSITION: BARRY GARDINER MP Barry Gardiner is a British Labour Party politician who has been the MP for Brent North since 1997. He was the Chairman of the Labour Friends of India, and has lectured at the Academy of National Economy in Moscow. He has been described as "One of the best educated and most internationally experienced MPs" by Andrew Roth of the Guardian. JOHN BARON MP John Baron is the Conservative MP for Billericay and District. He has been a long-standing critic of the UK's involvement in Afghanistan and was the only Conservative MP to vote against our continued involvement in Afghanistan. He was also the only Conservative MP to vote against a no-fly zone in Libya. WILL HUTTON Will Hutton is a British writer, weekly columnist and former editor-in-chief for The Observer. He is a governor of London School of Economics and author of "The World We're In" in which he criticises American conservatism.
