Vladimir Putin has now led Russia into wars in Chechnya, Georgia and most recently Ukraine since coming to power. Given the ongoing standoff between the Ukrainian Government and pro-Russian rebels on the borders of Europe, we ask whether the Russian President’s actions are a threat to global security. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• PROPOSITION ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Luke Harding is a foreign correspondent for the Guardian. Harding has been a critic of the Putin regime, consequently being expelled from Russia in 2011. Oliver Bullough is a freelance journalist writing primarily about Russia. He has written for Reuters' Moscow bureau, and was shortlisted for the Orwell prize for his book let Our Fame Be Great. Simon Ostrovsky is a Soviet-born reporter for VICE News, working on a series of reports from Ukraine called Russian Roulette. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• OPPOSITION ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Peter Hitchens writes for the Mail on Sunday, previously reporting from Moscow and Washington. In 2010 he received the Orwell prize for outstanding political writing. Amie Ferris-Rotman is a journalist who has previously served in the Moscow bureau as an energy reporter and political correspondent, and more recently, senior correspondent in Afghanistan. She is also a Journalism Fellow at Stanford University. Jordan Anderson is a graduate of the School of Oriental and African studies and King's College London, Jordan is a current World Masters Debating Champion, and works at a foreign embassy in London.
