With the continued and increasing investment in developing regions around the world, the Union asked whether the global business community has exploited those in long-term need in pursuit of short term profit. ****************** PROPOSITION ****************** Dr Antara Haldar is a Law Professor at the University of Cambridge, specialising in the relationship between legal theory, economics and development. Prasanna Kannan is currently the Portfolio Manager at the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Prior to this, he worked on the trading floor at Goldman Sachs. He completed his MA at Cambridge with his thesis on Microfinance programmes in South Asia. Dr Adam Booth is a Cambridge alumnus and founder of the Cambridge Marxist society. He is now a socialist campaigner and journalist. ****************** OPPOSITION ****************** Dr. Kumar Aniket is an economics DoS and College lecturer at Cambridge, with research interests including microeconomic theory, economic development and institutional economics. Ravi Solanki is a 4th year Medic and President of the Cambridge Development Initiative, a student-run NGO focussed on changing the way student volunteering is done. CDI has four projects for the informal settlements of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Michael Dunn Goekjian was ranked as the second best speaker at The 2015 World Universities Debating Championship and is a former President of the Cambridge Union.
