As we entered an election year, the Union asked whether the Labour Party deserves to be returned a majority in Parliament. ****************** PROPOSITION ****************** David Lammy is MP for Tottenham, former Minister under Tony Blair and a candidate for the Labour nomination for Mayor of London in 2016. Hilary Benn is MP for Leeds Central and Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. He served as a Minister under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Holly Higgins is an MML student at Girton and Vice-Chair of the Cambridge Universities' Labour Club. ****************** OPPOSITION ****************** Lembit Öpik is a former Liberal Democrat politician, and author of The Alternative View, which discusses the future of the Liberal Democrats as members of the Government. Crispin Blunt is MP for Reigate and a former Under-Secretary of State for Prisons and Youth Justice. He is also a former Army Officer and was President of the Durham Union. Charlie Bell is a medic at Queens’, and currently Editor of the Cambridge Tab. He is currently undertaking a PhD in medical genetics, specialising in diabetes in children.
