The largest exporter in the world and a dominant force in international trade, China is quickly becoming one of the leading superpowers in the world. The Union takes this opportunity to discuss the ever increasing role of China on the global stage, both politically and economically. ************** SPEAKERS ************** Proposition: Sir Malcolm Rifkind is the former Conservative MP for Kensington. He has served in numerous cabinet positions, including as Foreign Secretary under John Major. Andrew Mitchell is the MP for Sutton Coldfield. He has been Secretary of State for International Development and was President of the Union in 1978. Charles Haswell is the former Global Head of Financial Sector Policy at HSBC. He previously worked for the British Foreign Office in their Embassy in Beijing. Opposition: Afua Hirsch is the social affairs and education editor at Sky News. She has also been a criminal defence and international law barrister. Kun-Chin Lin is a lecturer in politics based in Gonville and Caius.
