To represent the developing of an even closer bond between the University of Cambridge and the Cambridge Union, the Union will host a special debate on the future of UK Universities, celebrating their rich history but also questioning their future and viability in a debate ft. the Vice Chancellor of Cambridge. This event will also celebrate 200 years of the Union's existence within Cambridge, and its ties with its 800-year old home. ************** PROPOSITION ************** Nick Hillman has been the Director of the Higher Education Policy Institute since 2014, and between 2007 and 2013 was a Special Adviser in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. Kate Brooks is reading for a DPhil in International Relations at Oxford and works as a Consultant Researcher for the UN in Beirut. She is the former head of competitive debating at the Oxford Union, twice European Semi-Finalist and top ten speaker. Fletch Williams has recently started at her third university studying for an LLM in Human Rights. She is also the Advocacy Manager of a global NGO which focuses on gender equality and international development. ************** OPPOSITION: ************** Now Cambridge University's Vice-Chancellor, Sir Borysiewicz is a pioneer in vaccine research and was previously head of the Medical Research centre; a national organisation that supports medical science. Srishti is a PhD student in English at Newnham College. She was recently a semi-finalist and 14th-ranked speaker at the European Universities Debating Championship. She is the winner of Middle Temple Open, and has broken at many other tournaments across the country. Doug is a Junior Counsel, and holds degrees from Cambridge and St Andrew's Universities. He has won over twenty student debating competitions, reached the semi finals of WUDC three times, and was the Chief Adjudicator of the 2013 World Debating Championships.
