The Presidency and Civil Rights - Kennedy and Johnson

submitted by Marvin's Underground Evening Lectures on 10/07/18 1

Journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault, who was the first African American to attend the University of Georgia, will discuss the struggle for civil rights in the early 1960's with Harvard historian Kenneth Mack, and Roger Wilkins and Harris Wofford who worked with and for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. This conference examined key moments in the civil rights movement during five American presidencies -- from Roosevelt to Johnson. A final panel examined contemporary civil rights struggles in the years after the signing of the Civil Rights Act. Brought to you by special sponsorship from Bingham McCutchen LLP. Copyright: John F.
