Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, addresses the general debate of the 73rd Session of the General Assembly of the UN (New York, 25 September - 01 October 2018). ------------------------------ Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, the US President Donald Trump said “Iran’s leaders sow chaos, death and disruption” as he invited the world leaders to join the US in isolating the Iranian regime. The world leaders gathered this week in New York for the 73rd General Debate at the United Nations. Delivering his remarks, the US President Donald Trump said while his administration, with the help of many allies made significant progress in denuclearizing the Korean peninsula, the sanctions on the North Korea will remain in place “until denuclearization occurs.” On Syria, Trump said “our shared goals must be the de-escalation of military conflict along with a political solution that honours the will of the Syrian people” and urged “the United Nation- led a peace process be reinvigorated. “ He also said “but rest assured, the United States will respond if chemical weapons are deployed by the Assad regime.” Announcing that the sanctions imposed on Iran by the US will take effect in November and calling on the world leaders to join the US in isolating Iranian regime, Trump said “Iran’s leaders sow chaos, death and disruption. They do not respect their neighbours or borders or the sovereign rights of nations. Instead, Iran’s leaders plunder the nation’s resources to enrich themselves and to spread mayhem across the Middle East and far beyond.” Citing USD 13 trillion in trade deficits over the last two decades in trading with China, Trump announced tariffs on China’s import to US to total USD 215 billion. The US President said “I have great respect and affection for my friend the president of China, but I have made clear that our trade imbalance is just not acceptable. China’s market distortions and the way that they deal cannot be tolerated. As my administration has demonstrated, America will always act in our national interests.” Denouncing OPEC for high oil prices, Trump said the United States is currently “the largest energy producer anywhere on the face of the Earth” and said his country “stands ready to export our abundant, affordable supply of oil, clean coal and natural gas. OPEC and OPEC nations are as usual ripping off the rest of the world and I don’t like it. Nobody should like it.” The President also said “the United States is committed to making the United Nations more effective and accountable. I have said many times that the United Nations has unlimited potential. As part of our reform effort, I have told our negotiators that the United States will not pay more than 25 percent of the UN peacekeeping budget. This will encourage other countries to step up, get involved, and also share in this very large burden.” The United States already pulled out of the UNESCO, the UN Human Rights Council alleging the body’s bias towards Israel, and withdrew its support and recognition to the International Criminal Court (ICC). _____________________________ Watch General Debate of the General Assembly (in original language) unwebtv.live/73_UNGA_FL
