Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi Mansour, President of Republic of Yemen, addresses the general debate of the 73rd Session of the General Assembly of the UN (New York, September 25 – October 01, 2018). Yemeni President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi told the UN General Assembly that restoring the sovereignty of the state over all the Yemeni soil was the “only way” for stability in the country adding that anything else “is nothing but postponing and preparing for more rounds of war and conflict.” Addressing the Assembly today (26 Sep), Hadi said the conflict in his country was imposed by the Houthis who are supported by Iran and Hizbullah. He said predicament faced by Yemen is not a political conflict that can be contained by dialogue. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi, President, Yemen: “We are combating a complex religious group which politically believes in its exclusive right to rule as a divine right, and disregards all contemporary values including democracy and human rights. Socially, it views itself as a unique race and requests that the people glorify and hold it sacred. It is also a group that is utilizing all forms of violence which has ripped apart the society and created hate among the people. Nationally, it has sold its national loyalty and works as a war proxy in favour of Iran and Hizbullah.” The Yemeni President stressed that his government had made all the necessary concessions for peace, but all efforts to bring peace to the country have failed. He called on the international community to uphold its responsibilities in applying pressure on Iran to cease its interference in Yemen and its support for Houthi militias.
