Walid Al-Moualem, Deputy Prime Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic, addresses the general debate of the 73rd Session of the General Assembly of the UN (New York, 25 September - 01 October 2018). The Deputy Prime Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic, Walid Al-Moualem, today (29 Sep,) told the General Assembly that Syria’s war on terror “is almost over, thanks to the heroism, resolve, and unity of the people and the army, and to the support of our allies and friends.” However, Al-Moualem said, the government is committed to continue fighting this sacred battle until we purge all Syrian territories from terrorist groups.” The Syrian official said, “an illegitimate international coalition, led by the United States, on the pretext of combating terrorism in Syria,” has “done everything but fight terrorism.” Furthermore, he said, it has even become clear that the coalition's goals were in perfect alignment with those of terrorist groups; sowing chaos, death and destruction in their path.” On the refugee issue, Al-Moualem said that “thanks to the help of Russia, the Syrian government will spare no effort to facilitate the return of those refugees and meet their basic needs,” and announced that “a special committee was recently established to coordinate the return of refugees to their places of origin in Syria and to help them regain their lives.” Calling for the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country, the official said, “any forces operating on Syrian territory without an explicit request from the Syrian government, including US, French, and Turkish forces, are occupying forces and will be dealt with accordingly.
