April 2, 2016 Speakers: Session Chair: Lauren Ristvet; Timothy Harrison, University of Toronto, Director of Excavations at Tel Tayinat “The ‘Kingdom of Idols’: Neo-Hittites in the Land of Palistin/Patin at Tayinat on the Orontes”; Paul Zimansky, SUNY Stony Brook, formerly co-director of the Outer Town Project at Ayanis "An Uncertain Frontier: Urartu's Engagement with Central Anatolia"; Scott Branting, University of Central Florida, Director of Excavations at Kerkenes “Kerkenes and Gordion: Competition or Cooperation?” International scholars and archaeological excavation directors exploring Phrygian culture found at Gordion and other sites around Turkey come together for a scholarly conference funded by the Office of the Provost University of Pennsylvania Research Council, the School of Arts and Sciences, the Center for Ancient Studies, the Penn Museum, the Graduate Group in the Art and Archaeology of the Mediterranean World, and the departments of Anthropology, Classical Studies, History of Art, and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations.
