Desert kangaroo rats evade striking snakes with acrobatic jumps—and high-flying kicks. Using night-vision cameras, scientists recorded the rats escaping deadly bites, all in less than 100 milliseconds. The rats use erratic jumps and kicks to the head. They even fling sand into the faces of the snakes. In 23 attempted lunges by the snakes, only one hit a rat—and it managed to survive. ➡ Subscribe: bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure.
