"Shimming" pad-locks using this method may result in bits of metal tearing off and getting stuck inside the locking mechanism. This can potentially damage the lock. "Shimming" should only be attempted if the lock belongs to you and there is no other practical way to open the lock. If you attempt opening a lock that does not belong to you, without the prior consent of the owner, the activity may be illegal and you may be subject to the consequences. Use of video content is at own risk. Project History & More Info: In emergency situations, it's always good to know and understand as many options as possible. If you have a padlock for which you've forgotten the combination, it can be opened with commonly available items. I was impressed to learn that these types of locks could be opened so easily, and with something as simple as a piece of soda can.
