The fiction writer James McCourt spoke with the journalist Dylan Foley from his Gramercy Park apartment in New York City on March 9, 2013. McCourt is the author of the classic opera novel "Mawrdew Czgowchwz" (pronounced Maw-dew Gorgeous), the story collection "Time Remaining" and the cultural history "Queer Street." In this video, he talks about being in the Stonewall Bar hours before the riot started on June 28, 1969. McCourt recounts witnessing a surreal confrontation between two cops and a drag queen.
