A Father's Day Tribute featuring Neal E. Boyd singing, Father’s Prayer Music & Lyrics by Neal E. Boyd & Brandon K. Guttenfelder Other Lyrical Additions: Glendon Guttenfelder Verse 1: My ba-by boy ran up to me, one Sat-ur-day. He had his lit-tle glove in hand, he said, “Daddy wanna play?” I smiled at him, his lov-ing eyes, his face was all a-glow. I asked him where his shoe had gone, he said, “Daddy I don’t know.” That ole bike with train-ing wheels, the pedals rusting still; I’ll catch you when you fall my son, “He said, “Daddy I know you will.” PreChorus: And when he sleeps, peace-ful-ly… I send this pray-er to hea-ven “God please watch ov-er this piece of me.” Chorus: “My Fa-ther, take my son, teach him to love, and let him know, his Daddy can’t a-lways see, What the fu-ture holds, I won’t always be, here to wipe a-way his tears, when he cries. Lord, take his hand, make him re-a-lize, this world looks a whole lot different, through his fa-ther’s eyes. Verse 2: He was twelve years old, a grow-ing boy, when he put his toys a-way. My wife glanced at old pic-tures and says, “He’s more like you ev-ery-day.” College days, my boy’s a man, so far a-way from home. Now it’s just my wife and me, and I feel so all a-lone. Pre Chorus2: Did I teach him all, all that I knew? If it’s not e-nough, “Lord, I leave the rest to You.” Repeat Chorus: Bridge: When life teach-es him to fear… and pain is ev-ry-where When he’s call-ing out my name… and he looks back and I’m not there When he sees that life isn’t al-ways fair… Teach him pa-tience, wis-dom, but most of all…The po-wer of a fa-ther’s prayer… a fa-ther’s prayer… Verse 3: Can it be, the years fly by… his fam-ly has be-gun. Twen-ty fades to thirty-five and my boy now has a son As he watch-es him sleep, peace-ful-ly… he sends my pray-er… the one I prayed so faith-ful-ly. Chorus 2: [starts quiet and builds] “My Fa-ther, take my son, teach him to love, and let him know, his Daddy can’t always see, [Lord, hold him] What the fu-ture holds, [Lord, keep him] I won’t always be, [Lord, guide his way] Here to wipe a-way his tears, when he cries. Lord, take his hand… Wipe a-way the tear-dops, when he cries… --- Recorded and Produced by Brandon K.
