Building Polymetric Grooves Using 3/16 Hi-Hat Patterns (FREE PDF)

submitted by drumcurator on 05/31/18 1

David Oromaner shares some exercises which utilize 3-16 hi-hat accent patterns (dotted 8th notes) to help build your polymetric groove vocabulary. You'll sart by playing the hi-hat accent pattern against a quarter note beat to get familiar with the three measure phrase in a 4 against 3 pattern. Then you'll mix in the measure positions with 16th notes on the hats and snare drum backbeats in order to create more usable grooves.
