Tan Dun - Tea

submitted by Marvin's Underground Music Ondemand on 05/08/18 1

Tea Inspired by the Tea Ceremony, Tan Dun, the contemporary Chinese composer living in New York, wrote the opera "Tea". Tea is a tragic love-story set against the background of Chanoyu, the Japanese tea ritual. In "Tea", Tan Dun combines Eastern and Western composition techniques and musical ideas to create a unique sounding fusion between two great musical traditions. John Cage once said of Tan Dun, "His music is one we need as East and West come together as one home. "The opera is the door to this journey into the mystical world of Chado, the Way of Tea. A world in which the ultimate objective is, as Tan Dun himself states, "to hear colour and see sound". REPERTOIRE: Dun: Tea - Opera; Cage: Sonates ORCHESTRA: Dutch Chamber Orchestra PERFORMERS: Tan Dun, composer; John Snijders, piano
