Wimbledon 'Common'?

submitted by maxplayer on 03/22/14 1

There is a big tennis competition in Wimbledon which is hosted by 'The All-England Club'. It is a private members club formed in 1868 by aristocrats, royalty, traders and croquet enthusiasts. The precursor of croquet was 'Pallio Mallio' aka 'Pall Mall' where there are also lots of wealthy, private members clubs. It turns out that even though Wimbledon is common land, it is privately owned by the Spencer family. The very same family that brought about Winston Churchill and Princess Diana. Wimbledon is where royalty and aristocrats rub shoulders with ordinary folk whilst picking their pockets. An ideal situation for a 'baby shower', wouldn't you agree?
