Tax Increase Coming To Michigan State lawmakers mull 7 percent sales tax to raise revenue for Michigan's crumbling roads Gov. Rick Snyder and legislative leaders are still talking about a sales tax increase to fix roads and boost education spending, but it's a long shot that a deal will be reached in time to put a proposal before voters in November. Raising the 6 percent sales tax can only be done if voters approve a constitutional amendment. Two-thirds of the Republican-led House and Senate would first have to agree by Sept. 6 to place such a measure on the November ballot. www.lansingstatejournal.com/viewart/20130814/NEWS04/308140019/State-lawmakers-mull-7-percent-sales-tax-raise-revenue-Michigan-s-crumbling-roads Michigan legislative leaders looking to boost road funding but still debating sales tax solution LANSING, MI -- Legislative leaders are working with Gov. Rick Snyder to find new money for Michigan roads, but they have not reached agreement on any solution likely to include some form of new tax revenue. Snyder, who is pushing for $1.2 billion a year in new road funding, has been meeting this summer with Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer, House Speaker Jase Bolger and House Minority Leader Tim Greimel. The MIRS subscription newsletter reported Monday that the quadrant leaders "are moving toward a package" that would devote all revenue collected at the gas pump -- including fuel excise and sales taxes -- to roads while boosting the state sales tax by one percent to replace lost revenue currently earmarked for schools and cities. www.mlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/08/michigan_legislative_leaders_l.html LANSING — Legislative leaders are getting closer to a deal that would raise $1.2 billion a year needed to fix Michigan's crumbling roads — but it could mean a hike in the state's 6% sales tax. Voters could be asked, probably next year, to support a sales tax increase. The plan that seems to be getting the most traction would ask voters to raise the sales tax to 7% and revise how the increased revenue is spent. Snyder's proposal to raise registration fees and gas taxes was "a nonstarter," Richardville said today. "We didn't want to touch registration fees or raise the amount that people pay at the gas pump. That's crazy," he said. Currently, the 6% sales tax on gasoline purchases raises about $1.2 billion and goes mostly toward schools and cities. Under the new plan, roads would get $1.2 billion, and the increased revenues from an across-the-board sales tax increase would go toward schools and cities. www.freep.com/article/20130814/NEWS06/308140146/sales-tax-increase-michigan-roads-7-percent-snyder Will Detroit be a NWO start point for Martial Law www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULBJa9ZDfKc Kaz vs Wild Season 4 Survival Camp and Practice.
