In this introduction to the "Sermon on the Mount" the Beatutudes serve to show us what the born-again experience looks like at a spiritual-change level in the heart of a follower of Jesus Christ. Jesus said that being born-again is hard to describe (John 3); that it was like the wind in that sense...where; you might not be able to see the wind but you can see the wind in the branches of the trees by the fluttering of the leaves...the Beatitudes are "the wind in the branches" i.e. the effect of the Holy Spirit indwelling the believer's heart/spirit at the New Birth...
