Communion is a time for the church to both remember the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ and to re-grip our cross of discipleship...a time to worship Jesus and to undergo self examination of our spiritual life: Is my heart right with God. Do I need to repent of sin? Am I right with others...do I need to forgive or ask for forgiveness? This is a monthly observance at Benton Bible Church as a spiritual check point in our relationship with God and others. Today's sermon looked into the work that the Holy Spirit does in forming the attribute of Christ's meekness in our hearts. Meekness is not to be mistaken for weakness. Meekness is the desire and commitment to do the will of God while being freed from the otherwise natural need/desire for self-promotion (or defense).
