The nose on the Great Sphinx of Giza and The Mayan Calendar are both missing for a very interesting reason. It appears that both original noses were of a highly unusual shape. Their astoundingly strange shape would have caused far too much public curiosity and therefore the noses on both these monuments were deliberatly destroyed.
