Overdiagnosis of psychiatric conditions and the medicalization of lived experience not only results in a financial and public health burden, but has also led to an impoverished sense of self and a belief in a “pill for every ill.” This presentation identifies some of the changes in the latest Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and show how financial conflicts of interest may affect psychiatric research and practice guidelines. **** Lisa Cosgrove, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist and Professor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and a Network Fellow at the Edmond J.
