Former child actor Kristy Mcnichol recently outed herself hoping to help alleviate some of the pain and violence that gay and lesbian youth suffer from the widespread acts of bullying. Her sexual orientation has been an open secret for decades. A private person who was coping with bipolar disorder, she was viciously outed by a rag publication in the early 1990's leading to her premature retirement from acting. What a shame as she is a wonderfully talented actress gifted equally in drama and comedy. Best known to American audiences for her portrayal of teen tomboy Buddy in the 1970's TV drama series "Family" and as Barbara in the 1990's TV sit-com "Empty Nest". Thanks to Kristy for all the meaningful depth and laughter she brought through the characters she portrayed and for the strength she has earned to be true to herself.
