Unhealthy denial really deals with taking powerful information that can change their life, but they are choosing to deny it. That is unhealthy denial. Healthy denial would be any time someone is projecting fear, judgment, blame, shame, criticism, resentment or anger. What we need to understand is those issues are originating in the person who is projecting them. And so what we need understand about that is we want to deny access to any fear-based projection. And when we do that, that just means that we don’t lose our identity when someone is critical of us. We don’t lose our identity when someone rejects us. We realize we see that they are coming from an injury and they are transferring that injury to someone else.
