I think that there is a place for both segmental and systemic x-rays. Segmental x-rays are important when there is trauma. Systemic x-rays are important when the segmental x-rays do not show the underlying injury. And so in that case, the full spine x-ray is far more powerful because we get to see the whole person as an intact person.
