Just days after she sang at Obama's Inauguration, 15-year-old Hadiyah Pendleton was killed in the crossfire of what was probably a gang-related shooting in her Chicago neighborhood. People are probably going to use this as another reason to demand gun control, but the irony is that Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and in spite of that (or more likely, because of it) they also have the highest gun-related murder rate.Gun control clearly doesn't work and instead of pushing for more restrictions, we should be looking at the underlying problems that are leading to this epidemic of violence, which is predominantly affecting young Black men from the poorest areas.
