The BET awards were jam-packed with memorable moments, thanks in large part to Leslie Jones being a perfect host. Leslie kicked off the show with one of the most energetic opening monologues we’ve ever seen, and while she slayed every joke she told our favorite had to be the one where she roasted Lil Yachty’s name. Leslie also brought big laughs during a bit where she showed off her aggressive basketball coaching skills. And last but not least, our third favorite Leslie moment came from a segment where she went back in time to tell her past self all of the amazing things that were going to happen in her future, including hosting the BET awards and marijuana becoming legal. On a more heartfelt but definitely memorable moment, Chance the Rapper was presented with the BET’s Humanitarian award, and he got a special surprise with a congratulation video from Michelle Obama. Chance’s acceptance speech was incredibly humble and moving, and proved that he’s got a long life of helping, and inspiring others ahead of him. The award show also paid tributes to the late Chuck Berry and the late George Michael, with renditions of “Johnny B. Goode” and “Careless Whisper”, respectively. And speaking of tributes, New Edition was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award, and the cast of BET’s The New Edition Story took to the stage to play some of the group’s biggest hits, including “Candy Girl”, Bobby Brown’s “Prerogative”, and Bell Biv Devoe’s “Poison”. I need those overalls in my life, ASAP. After receiving their award, New Edition announced they’ll be going on tour once again later this year. They then took to the stage themselves to give a little preview of what fans can expect to see on the tour and proved they’ve definitely still “got it”. Out of all the funny, surprising, and sweet moments from the show, by far the most adorable had to be when DJ Khaled brought his son Asahd onto the stage and showed just what a proud father he truly is… I legit can’t handle how cute that kid is. And last but not least, after Remy Ma beat out Nicki Minaj for best female hip hop artist, the rapper threw some major shade towards her ultimate hip hop nemesis... Alright guys now I wanna know what your favorite moment from the BET awards was, so sound off with your thoughts in the comments below, and then click to the left to check out Bruno Mars’ performance and to the left for DJ Khaled’s performance from the show.
