The Gospel Keynotes of Tyler, Texas began traveling and gaining popularity in the early 1960s. The backbone of the group was two members; Willie Neal Johnson and Paul Beasley. Willie Neal Johnson was the group manager and Paul Beasley was and still is group's tenor singer. Since the passing of Willie Neal Johnson, Paul Beasley has taken over as the manager of The Keynotes. The Keynotes traveled across the country during the 1960s. In the late 1960s and early 1970s they recorded one of their biggest hits: "Jesus You Been So Good To Me". "Jesus You Been So Good To Me" opened many doors for the Keynotes allowing them do shows at the Historic Apollo Theater, convention centers, and other venues across the country. Other hits of theirs include: "That's My Son", "Clean Heart", "I Made A Vow", "Keynotes Prayer", "Just A Rehearsal", and "Walk Around Heaven".
