Since 2011, the boko haram insurgency has killed over 15,000 people and driven 2.4 million from their homes in the north-east. While the ongoing military operations in the region have seen significant improvement in the conflict since early 2015, the eradication of boko haram from most of the region’s large towns has revealed the devastating humanitarian emergency that has taken hold. According to the United Nations, 4.5 million people currently face acute food insecurity and hundreds of thousands of people remain inaccessible to relief efforts. We will be talking about the humanitarian situation in the northeast. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs has raised alarm over the humanitarian situation in the north east, after the military operations in the region.
