SPECIAL REQUEST "Mack the Knife" was composed by Kurt Weill with German lyrics by Bertolt Brecht for The Threepenny Opera, which premiered in Berlin in 1928. Bobby Darin recorded his version with Marc Blitzstein’s English lyrics at Fulton Studios on West 40th Street, New York City, on December 19, 1958 with Richard Wess conducting. Released as a single on the Atco label in August 1959. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six on the Black Singles chart, and earned Bobby Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best New Artist in 1960.
