Considered by many to be one of the greatest pop singers of the 20th Century, Sam Cooke started out as a gospel performer. His first successful crossover secular hit was "You Send Me" his debut on Keen Records recorded on June 1, 1957 and released on September 7, spending six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart and three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart. Although the song was credited to Sam’s younger brother, L.C. Cook, it was actually written by Sam. It can be found on the CD, Sam Cooke - Greatest Hits, on RCA.
