Anneka Svenska joins Sky News to talk about the continued scandal surrounding the mislabelling of real fur as faux in the run up to Christmas - many consumers are unknowingly purchasing fur which can also have come from a cat or dog. Many online retailers are stocking real fur products and mislabelling them as faux due to sloppy product checking. Trimmings from countries such as China taken from a horrifically cruel fur trade where animals, including dogs and cats are skinned alive are ending up on our high street clothing. Due to the cheap standards of fur production in China, real fur can now often be cheaper than fake and is being seen topping off bobble hats, small key-rings and parka jacket collars this year. A way of finding out if your fur is real is to check the base to see if there is skin, see if the hairs are pointy and tapering and also if it burns and smells like keratin which smells like burning human hair. There is no excuse to wear real fur in the 21st century as we are not living as cave men anymore and have a choice. The animals...do not. Humane Society International continue investigations into unearthing mislabelling in fur clothing and is calling for a total ban on fur in the UK. PETA also is committed to ending the fur trade and has been protesting outside the Canada Goose store in London for the last few weeks.
