APPLE HAS NOW RELEASED A POWERED USB-LIGHTNING ADAPTOR THAT SEEMS TO WORK ON ALL LIGHTNING IPADS!!! Thus we can simply connect the ipad to the internet *powered* using the new lightning usb3 camera adaptor with the apple usb-ethernet adaptor: www.apple.com/shop/product/MK0W2AM/A/lightning-to-usb-3-camera-adapter?fnode=85 You still need the official apple ethernet adaptor (bought from an apple shop to avoid conterfeits:) www.apple.com/shop/product/MC704LL/A/apple-usb-ethernet-adapter?fnode=aa8795adce6339661619c7a047a1552506aa34257da53504de4eb92c3cec23df12d70569648632a5f43eaa59b2544d70ed5fa3a71494ab95f8240e9826f9e5054776e457e088b66654524f59e3481b0c54951498203bb97369de74ae52d7b617 The ipad lightning power cord goes into the new usb3 adaptor and thus we finally can be wired online with power! ******************************************************************************************************************* OLD INFORMATION; ONLY RELEVANT FOR THOSE WHO USE IPAD WITH 30 PIN ADAPTORS: The ipad can connect to the internet using ethernet cable to any standard router or modem: You need an apple ethernet-usb adaptor, an ipad-usb adaptor and an active usb hub. Use a long usb cable so you can move around a bit. Up to ios8 you get a warning which you can just dismiss, so it wasn't officially supported by apple, yet in ios9 there is no longer any warning so it seems to be truly functionally tested! If you use a non-apple ipad-usb adaptor you may get another warning that forces you to reinsert the cable to get connection after sleep, that is enough reason for me to use the original cables. The cabled internet setup needs ios7, ios 8 or ios 9 and is tested working on ipad mini, ipad air and iphone 5, it should work on all models except the oldest ipad 1 (the new models use lightning-usb adaptors, the old need 30pin-usb adaptors) Last test may 2015, works with ios 8.3 - if you have trouble then just replug all cables and repower the hub :) Speed is comparable with wifi and is very stable. Facetime is the only app i have found not working, while skype, snapchat, facebook and imessage are all fine! The second half of the video is demonstrating youtube use, where you see that if you disconnect the wire while watching a video you would be able to see the entire video if the buffer is full, otherwise the video won't resume until restarted, streaming quality is perfect! Shopping list: 1) ethernet-usb adaptor (only works with genuine APPLE adaptor) 2) lightning-usb adaptor (or 30pin-usb adaptor for old ipad/iphone) 3) active powered usb hub 4) long usb wire fitting the hub (10 feet works!) 5) ethernet cable to attach to your router #1. Apple usb to ethernet adapter = www.apple.com/shop/product/MC7... (THE AMAZON "APPLE" ADAPTOR IS FAKE amzn.to/10I30oY) #2. Apple lightning to USB cable = www.apple.com/shop/product/MD8... (MAY NOT WORK WITH THE AMAZON COPY amzn.to/1pAeg2y) "2b. For those using old ipads or iphones, use the 30 pin version www.apple.com/shop/product/MC5... (maybe works with the www.amazon.co.uk/30-Pin-Connec...) #3. Any powered usb hub, eg. amzn.to/10I3jjM (this hub includes a 3 feet usb cable which can be used as item #4, although i suggest using a longer cable to have more space, other hubs have no cable, so be sure to get one:)
