In doubles, it's more of an attacking sport as compared to singles, so there's always an incentive to keep the shuttle down, whether through drops or very aggressive smashing. And as a result of this, there are two basic formations in doubles; the attacking, offensive position, or the defensive position. In the defensive position, both you and your partner are expecting to receive a smash from your opponent and are essentially going to bend your knees low, racket in front of you, getting to ready to return a smash. However, in an attacking or offensive position, one person goes up to the next, racket up, ready to smash at the net, while his partner is ready to do the same at the back court, or the rear court. And that's your typical doubles formation techniques and tips.
