There are 4 AAA batteries for the robot's battery pack and 2 AA batteries for the remote control that are included. Operating the robot is fairly simple, but the hand gestures mode gets a bit tricky. The remote control has a joystick and one button to switch between modes. In the video, I demonstrate each mode, except for Boxing since I do not have an additional one to be an opponent. Make sure when turning on the robot and remote controller that you turn the robot on first. Once the robot is turned on hold him straight up and down on a flat surface until he stabilizes. Then turn the remote controller on, because if performed in reverse the controller will not sync with the robot. The robot responds well to the controller even with its back towards you from a distance. When maneuvering the robot, I noticed it makes a rattling noise and vibrates some. When the robot is just maintaining balance, it quiets down. The faster the robot goes the more there is vibration, but it did not affect its ability to balance items on the tray. I was able to have it successfully balance a 4oz bottle of glue, 3 blocks stacked and an empty Coke can, each on different occasions. (shown in video) The dance mode is fun, because it automatically dances and plays music without having to control it. The only mode I was able to test and was a little difficult was the hand gestures. The hand gestures mode is indicated by the blue LED light. This mode disables the joysticks and uses its sensor to detect your movements. In the manual, it tells you how to hold your hand and which way to move it. You need to be very close to the robot for it to sense your movement. The robot's sensor is also very sensitive, so any slight movement can cause it to go another direction. Since the robot is very sensitive and you have to know exactly how to move your hand I can see this being frustrating for younger children. You will need to tell a young child that if they pick the robot up that once placed back down it will need to recalibrate, so don't let it go until stable. When the robot is lifted, it will make a lot of different sounds and its wheels will spin rapidly. We have been playing with the robot sporadically, but I would approximate the total time about 6 hours. The robot is still moving quickly without any signs of low battery. Once the batteries die I will update to give a better idea of the battery life. Overall, it really is awesome watching it balance and able to carry items. My kids have the robot carrying their toys and they write notes for the robot to deliver too. Plus, it's one of the few battery-operated toys that you can give as a gift and not have to worry about forgetting to buy batteries. Thanks for watching!
