Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site, Texas [Official]

submitted by climbthe on 03/12/14 1

32 miles northeast of El Paso, Hueco Tanks is named for the large natural rock basins or "huecos" (WAY-KOES) that have furnished a supply of trapped rain water to dwellers and travelers in this arid region of west Texas for millennia. Rock paintings at the site date back thousands of years. To protect these historical resources, reservations are required to visit the park. Better yet, make a reservation for one of the park's many guided bouldering, hiking and pictograph tours. Call 1-800-792-1112 or visit www.LifesBetterOutside.org.
