I'm going to teach you some basic coffee-making skills. What is the best coffee maker? I get asked this a lot, as well as I'm sure many other baristas. And all I can say is that the best coffee maker is whatever you're most familiar using. Whatever you can repeat on a very consistent level. Like for instance at home, I typically am using just a little pour-over device. I've been doing that for years, I have it down, like I know exactly what I'm doing, every little nuance. So I would say for me that is the best coffee maker. If you've been making a French press for a while, then you're really used to it, you've gotten some help from your coffee shop, they've given you some tips, you've been doing it for a long time, that is the best coffee maker. The only thing I will say that is not the best coffee maker is most home devices like regular drip pot, I'm not necessarily going to name any names, but the reason that those are not good is because they don't get up to the right temperature. If you have coffee that is brewed with water below 195 degrees, it ends up being sour and kind of weak tasting. But a trick you can do is to actually—you have your regular auto drip machine at home and then take water off the boil and pour it in to where the water goes and brew with that. Disclaimer: I've never actually tried that, but that's what I can recommend to make that better. So the best coffee maker is just going to be, what are you most comfortable with.
