Does it Swing? An Introduction to Swing Jazz for Young People part 1

submitted by MrsHiggs on 09/18/17 1

This is an introduction to swing jazz music. It features live swing jazz music performed by members of Jazz at Lincoln Center and Tomorrow's Warriors. This was performed at London's Barbican in June 2010 for an audience of 1,000 young people aged 6-13. The performance involved interactive swing dance and scat singing with the audience, as well as video projection of the live musicians. The songs were punctuated by onstage video projection. This described several themes of jazz music and how it works as a language, as well as a breakdown of the instruments played. This video combined animation with documentary. Musicians from Tomorrow's Warriors - Abram Wilson - trumpet, Yuri Galkin - bass, Graham Godfrey - percussion, Peter Edwards - piano Musicians from Jazz at Lincoln Center - Wycliffe Gordon 0 trombone, Alvin Atkinson - percussion, Reginald Thomas - piano The show was written, directed, filmed, and edited by Geoff Johnston for Genre Noir. Animation by Jarek Radecki.
