The Angliru - The Hardest Climb In Professional Cycling?

submitted by Team World2Cycle on 09/12/17 1

The Angliru is one of the most feared and legendary climbs in cycling. Subscribe to GCN on YouTube: gcn.eu/gcnsubs GCN spent a day on the Angliru at the 2013 Vuelta. We spoke to the riders beforehand and later watched as Chris Horner put on a dominant display to take 2nd on the stage and ensure his overall victory. The Angliru is so legendary that all the riders had taken special precautions ahead of the stage. Some had fitted 32 tooth cassettes to deal with the 23.5% gradient. First used in 1999, the Angliru has seen many great battles, from the late Jose Maria Jimenez dedicating his win to Marco Pantani to Roberto Heras riding up 1 minute 10 seconds faster than anyone has managed since, the Angliru has cemented it's place in cycling history and will continue to be a key battleground in professional cycling for years to come.
