Greenland Melt Lakes Drain - loop of NASA MODIS imagery processed by Jason Box to illustrate abrupt lake drainage on the western Greenland ice sheet. When the lakes drain, there are locally more than 200% speedups when the lake drainage floods the bed of the ice sheet; hydraulically jacking it upward, removing ice sheet flow resistance.
