With commercial property values increasing in the areas in and around Seattle, WA, the fast and effective restoration of brownfields has become of key concern to many developers and property owners in the area. At a former jazz club outside of Renton, WA, indoor air quality was impacted with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from nearby dry cleaning operations, exceeding regulatory risk-based screening levels from the Washington Department of Ecology. Wanting to either sell or rent his property, the owner first needed to make the it safe for inhabitants. Environmental Consulting firm Maul Foster & Alongi was asked to perform the work of engineering a solution for vapor intrusion in the building. Conducting a cost analysis of available vapor mitigation systems, Maul Foster & Alongi found that the Retro-Coat system cost 1/3 less than other VI mitigation systems being considered. Working with Land Science, Maul Foster & Alongi used Retro-Coat to successfully mitigate vapor intrusion in the building, and the owner is now pleased that the sale of his property can commence.
