This is the final scene from "The Stivics Go West", the 24th episode (and 181st overall) from the eighth season of the 1971-79 CBS sitcom "All In The Family". This episode marks the departure of Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers as series regulars in their respective roles of Mike "Meathead" Stivic and Gloria Bunker Stivic. This episode aired as a one-hour special on March 24, 1978. Mike has received a job offer to teach as a professor at University of Caifornia at Santa Barbara. Upon that revelation, Mike and Gloria's landlord George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley) terminates their agreement and they are forced to move back in with Archie (Carroll O'Connor) and Edith (Jean Stapleton) for the coming weeks as they prepare to move. This does not sit well with anyone, as Archie and Mike are back to fighting like they were in the show's earlier years. The day of the departure, whilst Gloria and Edith are loading the cab to take them to the airport, Archie and Mike have a honest, heart-to-heart talk, in where Mike admits that in spite of the many years they spent fighting, he genuinely loves and respects Archie. Archie is embarrassed by his own tender feelings for the Meathead and declares that he is like a son to him, as he has never done anything Archie told him to do. After Gloria says her goodbyes to her mother, she says her goodbyes to her father, who is sad to be losing his "little goil" and grandson. While Gloria and Joey get in the cab, Mike stays back and gives Archie a hug. Archie hugs him back and tells him to take care of his daughter and grandson. Mike then gets in the cab and the family leaves Queens. Archie goes back inside the house, sits in his chair and orders Edith to get him a beer. Edith, crying in the kitchen, dutifully gets the beer, but stops as she enters the living room to see Archie, crying and broken hearted. She goes back into the kitchen and announces she's coming back inl, giving Archie a minute to compose himself. She sets the beer on the table and sits in her chair. Archie and Edith then wonder how will they move on, now that the kids are gone. For myself and others, this is considered to be the true finale of "All In The Family"
