After screening the first pilot, Justice For All, ABC gave the producers more money to shoot a second pilot, titled Those Were the Days, which was taped in February 1969 in Hollywood. The script is almost the same as the first pilot. This time, Candice Azzara played Gloria and Chip Oliver played Richard/Dickie, who in the 1st and 2nd pilots was irish. D'Urville Martin played Lionel Jefferson in both pilots. Of course Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton played Archie and Edith Justice.. ABC ended up passing on the second pilot, and the show was sold to CBS, the kids were recast again with Sally Struthers and Rob Reiner, and Archie and Edith became the Bunkers.
