Indira Gandhi Memorial Award in Social Awareness bestowed on Renowned Actress and a Concerned Citizen Juhi Chawla Mehta by Ms Meira Kumar MP and ex Speaker of Lok Sabha for Juhi’s active participation and selfless efforts towards creating awareness about the health hazards caused due to mobile tower antennae radiation and her various other philanthropy work including Thalassemia patients and the AK Munshi Yojana Trust, which empowers special children from economically less privileged families from last 10 years. Indira Gandhi Memorial Award is an initiative honouring people from various fields for their exemplary contribution in their field. Juhi thanked Mumbai Congress for recognising the mobile tower antennae radiation as a serious and important issue affecting the health of the citizens. Juhi Chawla Mehta mentioned, “ The increased use of Wi-Fi gadgets and smartphones, the blanket of radiation is increasing in homes, schools, hospital, gardens, open spaces, streets, cities, farms and villages and will affect our entire environment in coming years. It will affect everyone women - men, children - aged, rural - urban, rich - poor and that is why it is so important.” “I would also like to thank the organizers for recognizing the cause which we are fighting for and bestowing this prestigious Indira Gandhi Memorial Award on me" said Juhi on the occasion. “ Juhi Chawla Mehta has approached and filed a PIL with the Mumbai High Court together with prominent Citizens of Mumbai and victims of Radiation from Mira Road to Mahim, Bandra to Navi Mumbai, Dadar East to Khar, Matunga to South Mumbai after all options of dialogue with Centre and State Government failed. Juhi believes and has faith in the Government and Judiciary to give justice and protect the Fundamental Right to Health of the Indian Citizens as granted by the Constitution of India.
