First of all, Dave Alvin is the man. He's the guy who showed me that we got just as much songwriting cred right here in California as they have in New York or London. And for someone just discovering his work, his back catalog is the gift that keeps on giving. Specifically, his song "Dry River" made me forget all the mediocre blues songs I've heard and reassess the whole genre. Playing along to his song, I started throwing in the lick that would become the main riff of "Fire On The Freeway." For a while, it was just the riff I played along to "Dry River," but then I thought, hell, that should really be its own song. So here is its own song. This video could not have been made without the tenacity and enthusiasm of our videographers Dennis Warsen, Craig Love, and Riley Bathauer (special thanks to Dennis for editing the final cut). They helped capture a bunch of gigs, showing that a) we perform more than we're supposed to, but still less than we'd like, and b) we play this song at a remarkably similar bpm each night. Along with yrs truly, the performers are Paul Paldino, Thomas Lopes, Adam Nash, Alex Rusbarsky (appearing either in the video or the audio, or both).
