On March 28, 2008, not many people outside North Carolina had ever heard of Davidson’s basketball team! But when Stephen Curry averaged 34.3 points over three games and dominated Big Ten school Wisconsin, the media took immediate attention! And not just to Curry’s scoring—but to his SHOES! Prominently displayed on Curry’s shoes were words from the Bible: “I can do all things”—referencing Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” When the media asked about his shoes, Curry said: “It’s one of my favorite verses. Having that there keeps me focused on the game, a constant reminder of who I’m playing for.” Steph Curry’s fame has continued, and his shoes still reflect his favorite Bible verse! He says it’s why he plays the game: ”to be a witness and share my testimony as I go”. Sign up to receive The Book in your inbox daily at museumofthebible.org/thebook!
